Stellantis Set to Launch First Leapmotor EV in India by 2026-27 – Premium EV Experience Awaits

After making its presence felt in Europe, Southeast Asia, and other global markets, Stellantis is gearing up to introduce the Leapmotor electric vehicle (EV) brand in India. This move marks the next step in Stellantis’ global expansion strategy and comes after the company first confirmed its plans for the Indian market in May 2024 and later reaffirmed them with a local announcement in April 2025.

Launch Timeline & Market Strategy

According to Shailesh Hazela, CEO & MD of Stellantis India, the first Leapmotor model is expected to be launched in the upcoming financial year, between April 2026 and March 2027. The company is considering two product categories for its debut in India:
✔ A B-segment model, aimed at compact SUV enthusiasts
✔ An entry-level C-segment SUV, likely tailored for premium customers

Sources suggest that the Leapmotor B10 C-segment SUV is a strong contender for the Indian market, aligning with consumer preferences for SUVs in higher price segments. Additionally, Stellantis recently unveiled the Leapmotor B05 C-segment hatchback at the 2025 Munich Motor Show, but given India’s demand for SUVs and challenging road conditions, the B10 SUV appears to be the more strategic choice.

Leapmotor B10 – Power, Range, and Features

The Leapmotor B10 stands out with its impressive dimensions and EV specifications:
📏 Length – 4,515 mm
📏 Width – 1,885 mm
📏 Height – 1,655 mm
📏 Wheelbase – 2,735 mm

In the UK, it is offered with:
⚙️ A 215 hp / 240 Nm electric motor
🔋 Battery options – 56.2 kWh or 67.1 kWh
🔋 WLTP Range – 361 km and 434 km, depending on battery size

For the B-segment offering, Stellantis may consider the Leapmotor T03, an A-segment hatchback with the following specs:
📏 Length – 3,620 mm
📏 Width – 1,652 mm
📏 Height – 1,577 mm
📏 Wheelbase – 2,400 mm
⚙️ Power – 94 hp / 158 Nm
🔋 Battery – 37.3 kWh
🔋 WLTP Range – 265 km

While the Leapmotor lineup currently lacks a dedicated B-segment hatchback, the company’s product strategy indicates flexibility and responsiveness to the Indian EV market’s evolving demands.

Positioning Leapmotor as a Premium Brand in India

Globally, Leapmotor is perceived as a cost-effective EV brand, especially in markets like Europe. However, Stellantis plans to position Leapmotor differently in India, focusing on premium EV buyers rather than competing purely on price.

Key points on this approach include:
✔ No local manufacturing – implying a reliance on importing CKD kits for assembly, which will increase the cost
✔ A premium pricing strategy to justify the imported product
✔ No separate dealerships for Leapmotor – instead, vehicles will be sold via multi-brand showrooms alongside Jeep and Citroen models
✔ An expectation of moderate volumes initially, rather than mass-market penetration

Hazela confirmed that 50% of Stellantis’ retail outlets have already been converted into multi-brand showrooms, and all service centers are equipped to handle EV maintenance and repairs. The network is also set to expand from 110 outlets to 150 in the next six months, strengthening the brand’s reach.

Why India is Next for Leapmotor

India’s EV market is growing rapidly, with increasing consumer demand for SUVs and premium electric vehicles. By introducing Leapmotor as a premium EV brand, Stellantis aims to capture the aspirations of urban, tech-savvy customers who value advanced features, comfort, and sustainability.

With limited local assembly and a strategic dealership approach, Stellantis appears to be betting on quality over quantity, positioning Leapmotor as a luxury EV option rather than competing in a crowded entry-level segment.
